Murchison falls National Park, named after the famous waterfall along the Victoria, this 1500 mi² (3,893 km²) national park of grassy plains, savannah woodlands and riverine forest is best experienced on board one of various boat trips. The destination is either to Murchison Falls or the delta where the Victoria Nile flows into Lake Albert. The former is home to one of the largest concentrations of crocodile on the continent. This is because of a unique food source: innumerable Nile perch are funneled through the fall’s narrow gorge before they fall 150 feet (45 m) onto the rocks below.
Other wildlife includes hippo, buffalo, elephant, Rothschild’s giraffe, Defassa waterbuck, oribi, hartebeest, Uganda kob, patas monkey, lion and leopard. The best time to spot animals is during the months of January, February, March, June, July and September. Even the other months the park is well accessible and one can be surprised on the great sighting one may encounter. Don’t be limited. The more than 450 kinds of birds within Murchison Falls include red-throated bee-eater, shoebills, pipiac, silverbird and black-headed gonolek.
